Barry Town Claim pre-season win over Newport County

Barry Town United claimed a pre-season win over Newport County with a 2-1 friendly win.

Barry Town United claimed a pre-season scalp over Newport County with a 2-1 friendly win.

Steve Jenkins' side, who have won their last three games on the bounce, welcomed the Exiles to Jenner Park in only their second fixture since Nelson Jardim was unveiled as their new manager.

County went ahead after 15 minutes when skipper Aaron Wildig cooly finished at close range after being picked out with a deep cross from Anthony Glennon.

But Barry captain Kayne McLaggon drew level for the hosts by firing home a rebounded ball from a setpiece.

The League Two side rang the changes after the break and went close to restoring their lead when Michael Spellman struck just wide.

But just before the hour mark, Aiden Lewis delivered a stunning free kick beyond the reach of away keeper Jacob Carney to record a famous win for the Cymru Premier side.

Saturday's win capped off a good week of pre-season friendlies for Barry, who also ran out 5-3 winners over Cardiff City U21s in midweek.

The pre-season campaign continues with a Tuesday night trip to Hereford Pegasus before Swansea City U21s visit Jenner next Saturday.
