Barry RFC reached the second round of the WRU Youth Plate with a comfortable 25-3 victory at Whiteheads.
Movado Hall scored a hat-trick of tries for the young Bombers, whose margin of victory might have been even greater after a flying start saw them go over twice.
But after the first 20 minutes, they briefly eased off, allowing Whiteheads to get back in the game with a penalty before dominance was restored in the second half.
“I was expecting a test, as I don’t know the level of the Dragons’ set up, but looking at them in the warm up I saw that our boys were a lot bigger, giving us size and weight advantage,” said head coach John Dimond.
“We absolutely destroyed them in the scrums, and midway through the second half the referee told me that, on a safety issue, he had to call uncontested scrums. And in lineouts in their 22 they couldn’t stop us, we were just ploughing through.”
Defensively, Barry held Whiteheads without too much difficulty, generally stealing the ball when the hosts got into the 22.
It was a measure of their dominance that Whiteheads were restricted to just a penalty, and rarely seriously threatened the line. But Dimond was disappointed that after going 10-0 up, Barry eased off.
“I read the Riot Act at half-time. A bit of complacency and lack of discipline let Whiteheads back in the game. Too many individuals wanting to score, so tiny, silly little errors when, as a collective, we can destroy sides.”
The first midweek training session will be spent looking at the match video and analysing the performance as Barry prepare for the visit of Treorchy on Saturday for their final Cardiff Premiership Blue match - a winner-takes-all game with a semi-final spot at stake.
