Adran Premier: Barry Ladies defeated at Port Talbot

Barry: Anna Houghton 20', Lauren Harris 30'

Barry Town United Ladies are still navigating a learning curve in the Adran Premier, having won just once in their first four games as a top-flight domestic club.

On Sunday, they travelled to face a depleted Port Talbot Town side who - much like the crisis-hit men's team - began the day propping up the table.

But the Steelwomen have never given up easily - and in the ninth minute, Vicky Beddows scored their first goal of the season by heading home a corner kick to take the lead.

Barry struggled to find much headroom, but they drew level when Mackenzie Olden crossed to Anna Houghton, who made no mistake against home keeper Emily Roberts.

Arguably the pick of the goals saw the visitors take the lead, as Lauren Harris unleashed a superb volley just outside the box, which evaded Roberts.

After the break, Port Talbot pushed early to restore parity, forcing Chelsea Herbert into a fine save denying Beddows her brace.

But Jessie Taylor lobbed the ball over the Barry keeper to equalise on 51 minutes.

Olivia Townsend broke clear with Barry's best chance of a third goal, evading three players before playing in Olden, whose shot was comfortably saved.

But a setpiece from Lauren Amor proved Barry's undoing with Courtney Thomas gliding home the winner on 67 minutes.

The home defence kept Luke Williams' side at bay, condemning Barry Ladies to a third defeat from four.

Fellow newcomers The New Saints now prop up the standings, after their 2-0 defeat to Cardiff Met, while Barry slip to sixth.

Reigning champions Swansea City maintained their 100 per cent with a 4-0 victory over Cardiff City.
