Bluebirds beat Barry in Adran Premier

Barry Town United 0-2 Cardiff City

Before their first midweek outing of the season, manager Luke Williams said Barry's ladies were getting used to the intensity of the top flight and were growing as a team with every game.

At Jenner Park, both sides came into this Thursday night clash off the back of thumping first round victories in the FAW Women's Cup.

Barry didn't let up the pressure in the first half - although they did lose one of their key players, Lauren Harris, to injury after half an hour.

That was not long after the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty, for which Catherine Walsh struck the far post.

Town were denied the lead just before half time, when Mackenzie Olden was put through on goal, but the linesman's flag went up for offside.

Cardiff took full advantage just three minutes after the break, when some good play allowed Zoe Atkins to shoot low past keeper Chelsea Herbert from inside the area.

Walsh made amends for her earlier penalty miss on the hour mark, heading home from a corner to double City's lead.

Cardiff stayed on top for the last half hour as Barry slipped to a third straight defeat in the league.

Their next opponents on Sunday will be Cardiff Met, who went top of the table - on goal difference - with a 3-1 win over Pontypridd Town.

On Wednesday night, fellow newcomers The New Saints finally clinched their first Adran Premier win by beating Aberystwyth 2-0 at Park Hall.

The game between Port Talbot Town and Swansea City was postponed - with the reigning champions preparing for a rearranged cup tie this weekend.
