Report by Ken Watkins for Bro Radio Sport
Barry’s WRU Plate fixture at Cowbridge on Saturday was called off at the last minute, following the non-appearance of the match referee.
Both teams, coming into the game off the back of good victories a week earlier, had completed their pre-match warm up, and were initially advised that the start would be delayed.
Twenty minutes later, following frantic but fruitless efforts by the home club to find a replacement, the decision to call it off was taken.
This was the second scheduled Plate match between the two clubs being cancelled. Barry, hit by injuries and unavailability, had to call off their home fixture on August 21, as the club was unable to field a team.
It’s not certain whether either match against Cowbridge can be rearranged, and Barry’s last scheduled Plate match is at Dinas Powys on Saturday (September 18).
Barry have just two pre-season matches in October so will be looking to arrange others in a bid to build momentum going into the league season.
Barry start the league season with a visit to Ynysybwl on November 13, and follow that with a home match against Treorchy (November 27). In both fixtures, Barry will be looking for revenge for defeats in the 2019-20 season.
Cowbridge's season begins at home to Llanishen on Saturday 13th November, followed by a trip to Cilfynydd a fortnight later.
